Gabi's Heart

Gabi had her follow up cardiology appointment yesterday. We had her heart checked multiple times while she was in the hospital, especially while she was on ECMO, and every thing looked good for the most part. They were concerned with a small whole but said that it would most likely close on its own once all the swelling and fluid went away. We took her to see Dr. Gray at Primary Children's last year when she was about 2 1/2 months old and everything looked great. he took her off oxygen, (that we never used because it was such a small amount and she would tangle herself in the cords when she slept. she hadn't been on it for over a week at the hospital but the night before she came home the nurse said she dropped in her sats twice in the night and went right back up... well she is a wiggly sleeper and always pulled on her leads so i wasn't worried about it!) anyway last year when we had her checked they wanted to see her again in a year to be sure everything was still looking great.

Gabi did so great yesterday! She had to have an EKG which is shown in the pictures, she didn't make a peep. Even when they ripped off the sticky tape things they stuck to her! She also had an Echo cardiogram which is basically an ultra sound of her heart. Both tests came out perfect! I was very relieved and even better we don't have to go back again! Unless of course something happened or if she had issues with her pulmonary hypertension again and the Dr felt it was necessary. The only thing Dr gray noticed was a small heart murmur that we have known about, but it is very small and comes and goes so they aren't worried about it. It is pretty common apparently.

( Look how sweet she is, holding my hand!)

After all we went through with Gabi when she was born I am so grateful that she is growing healthy and hasn't had any other major health issues, I hope and Pray that it stays that way! We have many more tests and things to start checking for in the next year to make sure we are on top of any other issues we may face. At times its over-whelming a bit. Not only the chances of finding something but also the financial burden the medical bills piling up have become... as soon as we finished paying her bills from when she was born, it was one thing after another at our house and I don't know if we will ever be free of them, I sure hope so though! It is worth having us healthy and preventing anything bad in the future. I know the lord has blessed us beyond words and will continue to watch over us. That is such a great comfort and helps me get through everyday. I really try not to focus on the money part, i have my days that I'm full of anxiety about it, but in the end it has all worked out and we have gotten through it all. I have too much to be grateful for to waste my energy on things i cant control!
